Sparx Radius Grinding Ring – the classic hollow
The Radius Ring grinds the traditional hollow into your blade – according to Sparx, the profile that most professional and amateur players worldwide skate on. According to Sparx, every ring is laser-measured and inspected.
Select the radius you want above. You insert the ring into the skate sharpener and the rest runs automatically.
Which radius suits you?
- Small radius (e.g. 3/8" or 7/16"): deeper hollow, more grip
- Large radius (e.g. 7/8" or 1"): shallower hollow, more glide
- 1/2" is the most commonly skated radius. Sparx recommends it as a starting point, especially for younger and lighter players.
- 5/8" is, according to Sparx, a good fit for bigger and heavier players who want more glide.
- Goalies usually skate between 3/8" and 1/2" according to Sparx, depending on the bite they want.
Ring life
According to Sparx, a grinding ring lasts on average for around 60 pairs of skates – calculated with three cycles per sharpening. If you sharpen with more cycles, it will be fewer pairs. A chip in the ring stores the remaining ring life. The machine displays it and tells you when the ring needs to be replaced.
Compatibility
For the Sparx skate sharpeners ES100, ES200 and Sharpener 3 (ES300). Suitable for player and goalie skates.
